If humans want to expand into space, it will take us incredible amounts of energy. How do we do that? Easy: we will just use the sun’s energy by realizing the most ambitious construction project in history. This is how it works.

Child in 5087 (assuming the Dayton sphere has been constructed) : Mom I learned this cool thing in school today Mom: What was it?Child: Apparently there was this ancient planet called Mercury or something and it was small for a planet.Mom: When was this planet around?Child: Idk in the 2000’s I thinkMom: So it was in the Milky Way solar system right?Child: Yeah, I guess. That was the solar system humans used to live on right?Mom: Yes

I don’t think taking the whole sun and using it as a power source is a good idea, won’t that like, cause it to eventually just....stop shining(I can’t think of anything better)

i love how kurzgesagt makes stellaris and starcraft refrences, mostly starcraft, but i notice few stellaris ones here and there that i didn't realy pay attention to before.

You have to provide incentive for the current generation to build it. If it takes over a century to reap the benefits, no one will invest in the project. However, if you beam a small portion of that energy to Earth to start with, and slowly ramp up the amount you beam home, you will provide incentive to invest in the project. With the first set of collectors, can you afford to beam home the energy equivalent of a single nuclear power plant? Two? How much power can it spare from expansion and repairs, at each stage? That constant reward is what will get people actually investing in this, because that can be translated into wealth and economic growth.

I have a doubt - if we make a dyson sphere won't there be lesser sunlight on other planets and destroy their beauty ?

7:24 - The Magikarp is not pointless or short-term, it evolves into a Gyarados. And it doesn't need to eat or drink or breathe or even mate. The politicians are right, it is a dyson sphere on it's own.

OK… here’s what I live for… Science Fiction that has its basis in science fact. This Dyson Swarm is something that could put us in the direction of world peace & cooperation. We can only hope that we can put aside or differences (“rigid” differences) to make something bigger and better for our children, civilization, and Earth.
